The Rockstars

And so here we are with another issue of batchmate spotlight. This time around we have, not one, not two, but four interviewees! Here is the long standing quartet of Bogart Quitain, Paolo Claudio, James Tan, and Wardy Puyod.

95: Aside from maintaining your long-standing band, what have you guys been up to?

Bogart: I'm studying Law, so is Paolo. James will be taking the Engineering board anytime soon, and wardy is an Entrepreneur in his own right. We love to play billiards, basketball, swimming and snorkling sa paradise, joke time, watergun, gawa ng mga MTV's ng Guns n Roses...jet ski rin daw..kahadlok! I think that's the reason kung bakit hanggang ngayon banda pa rin kami..barkada kase eh, kahit tanggalin mo music, lingaw pa rin.

Paolo: Billiards, basketball, paradise island, colasas, libak sa isa't-isa.

James:

Wardy: Isda, Manok, Saging.

95: Any chance we'll see ICBJ albums in our favorite record stores soon?

Bogart: hmmm, we have...on my last count....48 original songs na hindi na re release and we have been approaching record producers..sa sobrang desperado namin na magka album ..nagqawa si Wardy and Paolo ng sariling recording studio..called Paolofusion and recording label...Kalapati Records. Those who have friends in the recording business, lakarin niyo naman kami.heheheFrom the photo archives.

Paolo: Yeah bakit hindi, pero siguro under a different name and tanggalin sa wardy kasi may superstar complex.

James:

Wardy: Naghihintay lang kami ng break, marami kaming songs pero wala pang matinong producer. Kung may kakilala kayong nasa industry, ipakilala niyo kami and maybe we can work something out.

95: Would you accept a million pesos in exchange for "converting" ICBJ to a boy band?

Bogart: Yes, they say Image is nothing compared to a million pesos..hahaha

Paolo: Actually boy band talaga kami. Pa cool effect lang yang rock n roll.

James: Yes, but ill still be the drummer. ill leave the dancing and singing to them.

Wardy: Kung naga-videoke kami ang mga request ni Bogart and ni Paolo mga kanta ng Backstreet Boys at magaling sila magre-enact ng sayaw.

95: Anyone married yet?

Bogart: Well, mukhang married lang kami pero wala pa naman..hirap nga pag magpa kasal ang isa sa amin, tatlo ang best man nya.

Paolo: Si Wardy. Pero secret lang dapat yun.

James: No.

Editor's note: Uy, ba't parang defensive?

Wardy: Wala pang pera.

95: Kids?

Bogart: Si wardy...maraming panganay!

Paolo: Hindered ng protection

James: No.

Editor's note: Ayan na naman!

Wardy: Nobody I know of. hehehe.

95: How do you manage your studies and your rock 'n roll lifestyle?

Bogart: Ngek, meron ba akong rock n roll lifestyle? The only vacant time that I have is during Saturday evenings, paolo and I hangout sa mga rock bars here in Manila. In Law school silence is mandatory, when you're in rock bars...sus...pakawala gyud!We go to Mayrics to watch real good hardrocking underground bands like ourselves, sa 70'sBistro and freedom bar naman more of the mainstream rock bands like Razorback and the Dawn.Nung pumunta si wardy dito, we took him to Mayrics para matanggal ang kanyang showband influence, sa harap talaga siya ng speakers pinaupo!Weekends talaga pang relax..inom, kinig music and jam, kahit dalawa lang kami ni pao. I also practice with the other band that I have here in Manila, we mostly play alternative and new wave songs, unlike Pao's band, they play hard hitting origs.

95: How did your classmates react when they realized that a rockstar like you is now their classmate?

Bogart: Di man ako rockstar, Kuya nga image ko sa klase kase ako ang pinakamatanda na lalake sa class, and the four of us never went the distance unlike other bands who really had a recording contract or played gigs in large stadiums. Pero upon knowing na I have a band, parang feeling ng classmates ko cool daw kase they never expected that their "kuya" so to speak, is a hard rocking dude, ang ayoko lang naging jukebox ako nila agad, pag may gimik they let me play the guitar so much na mapilitan ako tugtog ng mga showband songs, yung tipong may.."C'mon people!" na songs..kainis..ok lang basta amats na. ICBJ Lives!

95: Do you hate it when people, especially beautiful girls fail to recognize your rockstar qualities?

Bogart: Gageee!Never thought of that..what they see is what they get, kung ano ako or kaming apat sa stage ganun kami sa real life, tsaka tingin ko di talaga ako mapagkamalang rockstar kay kataba ko na...way angay na ba..hay naku, that's my dilemma!

95: We have read the article in PULP magazine about you, your music and your band. Why, oh why did you guys ever name yourselves the rubberdickies? Are you real-life dickheads to shout such moniker to the world?

Paolo: It's rubberduckies. We decided to go with that band name to piss off Sesame Street. Might someday change it to ice cold buko ducks or maybe rubberbuko. Yeah sometimes we can be dickheads. But most of the time we are well-mannered.

95: We'll definitely see you in the December 2002 Reunion, right?

Bogart: Alangan! Core group gud tatlo sa amin..

Paolo: <no comment>

James: likely

Wardy: Of course.
